Author’s Note

Even if we are fortunate enough to reach a dream-like place, everyone must confront their innermost self.
Sometimes we like this inner self, and sometimes we want to hide or avoid it, but we inevitably have to deal with it.

And we embark on a long journey called life with a self we don’t know whether is fortunate or unfortunate.
Like a helicopter roaring and soaring over the sea…

When we finally discover something small attached to the helicopter,
we call it ‘fate.’

Do you want to know your fate?
Roar loudly, like a helicopter…

Epilogue

During the Japanese colonial period, Japan actively promoted its invasion and colonial rule over Joseon.
However, importantly, Japan did not call this an ‘invasion’ or ‘plunder,’ but rather packaged it as ‘modernization,’ ‘civilization,’ ‘development of Joseon,’ and ‘Naeseon Ilche’ (Japan and Korea as one body).

In fact, many foreign media outlets actually believed this.
And, although 81 years have passed since the 35-year rule, it still remains a deep blue ‘bruise’ in our history.

While imperial Japan actively promoted its activities, our independence fighters always remained hidden.
The difference between those who hide and those who reveal begins here.

Those who hide have no control.
Whether they did well or not, it will never be revealed.

Those who reveal gain a choice.
Will they reveal it positively, or negatively?

A ‘bruise’ has no options.
It just endures and tolerates, and is only accidentally discovered.
A ‘bruise’ must always be hidden, remaining unrevealed, settling somewhere as a bruise.

However, a wound can choose.
Will it become a scar of glory? Or a painful wound?
You can decide for yourself.

The difference between hiding and revealing holds a mysterious power that can even change the same facts.

Everyone has trauma in life.

I also have a few traumas.
Most of them are things I want to reveal, but it’s often difficult to even talk about them because I blush, feel ashamed, or embarrassed.
However, if left unhealed and held in the heart for too long, it becomes a ‘bruise.’
This will never be healed in a lifetime.

However, the moment it is revealed externally…
healing begins. And that wound can choose its own future.

My greatest fear in life was psoriasis, an autoimmune disease.
Every morning I woke up, my entire skin was covered in erythema.
The speed at which it spread was so rapid that it was my greatest fear every single day.
People treated me as a severely ill patient, feeling pity and sorrow for me.

I hated that sympathy so much.
And I often thought about turning my back on the world completely and going into the mountains.

However, if I had hidden my wound, it would have become a bruise in my heart.
Instead, by not hiding it and confronting it, my illness became a scar of glory.
The side business I started to earn money for psoriasis treatment, without hiding my condition, gradually expanded and developed into a full-fledged business.
Rather, people responded to the courage of revealing my most shameful moment.

I had a choice.
To let it remain a bruise in my heart, or to let it become a wound,
a scar of glory or a painful wound. This was entirely within my power to choose.

It was then that I first realized:
the moment you reveal a weakness, it is no longer a weakness but can become a strength.

I like things where brilliance and antiquity coexist.
Places like Hong Kong, Budapest, and London are brilliant yet not flashy, and they are old.
Among these places, I especially like Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is a place where glamour and classic charm, along with various emotions, are intertwined.
My fondness for Hong Kong culture stems not from a distorted longing for foreign lands, but from Hong Kong-set movies like ‘Police Story’ that I enjoyed watching as a child, and the live broadcast of Hong Kong’s handover from Britain in 1997, which I watched without understanding the content.
And it’s highly probable that it’s a product of rote learning about the vast territories of the British Empire while studying world history.

Through this work, I wanted to assimilate my greatest dream life and my flaws.
And I wanted to offer comfort to many people.

When you start to reveal, wounds heal.
And those wounds can choose their own path.
Whether to become glory, or pain…
